LIGHT

Philodendron Congo Nuclear Variegated prefers bright, indirect light, but should be introduced gradually after shipping. Gentle light helps protect the lighter variegated sections from stress. Direct sun can scorch pale areas, while low light may cause the variegation to fade and new growth to appear more solid green.

WATERING

Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry. After shipping, it’s best to allow slightly longer dry periods while the roots adjust. This plant holds moisture well in its thick stems, so overwatering during acclimation can quickly lead to yellowing or soft leaves. Always allow excess water to drain fully.

HUMIDITY

This plant does well in moderate humidity (55–70%). While it is more tolerant than many variegated plants, stable humidity helps new leaves unfurl evenly after shipping. Extremely dry air may cause minor leaf edge browning, especially on lighter areas.

TEMPERATURE

Ideal temperatures range from 68–85°F. Philodendron Congo Nuclear Variegated prefers consistent warmth. After shipping, avoid placing it near cold windows, exterior doors, or air conditioning vents, as temperature fluctuations can slow recovery.

SOIL & POTTING

Use a well-draining, airy aroid mix that allows oxygen to reach the roots. A blend with perlite and chunky material works well. Ensure the pot has drainage holes. Do not repot immediately after arrival—wait at least 2–3 weeks to allow the plant to acclimate before disturbing the root system.

GROWTH & ACCLIMATION

This is a self-heading philodendron, so growth will be upright rather than vining. After shipping, growth may pause briefly while the plant adjusts. New leaves may emerge smaller or with lighter coloration at first and improve as the plant stabilizes. Avoid frequent movement during the acclimation period.

COMMON ISSUES & TIPS

  • Yellowing leaves → excess watering or poor drainage
  • Fading variegation → light may be too low
  • Drooping leaves → temperature stress or recent shipping
  • Slow growth → normal during acclimation

Philodendron Congo Nuclear Variegated settles in well with patience. With stable care after shipping, it will resume steady growth and maintain its bold, upright form.
