LIGHT

Provide bright, indirect light to maintain strong variegation.
Avoid harsh direct sun, which can burn the white and light-green patches.
If variegation begins fading, increase brightness or use a gentle grow light.

WATERING

Keep the soil lightly moist, allowing the top inch to dry between waterings.
Overwatering causes yellow leaves and soft stems, while underwatering leads to drooping.
Reduce watering frequency in cooler months when growth slows.

HUMIDITY

This plant thrives in 60–75% humidity.
Higher humidity prevents crispy edges and keeps new leaves healthy.
Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or group plants together to raise moisture levels.

TEMPERATURE

Ideal temperature range is 68–82°F.
Avoid cold drafts, sudden temperature changes, and placement near vents or exterior doors.
Frydek Variegated is sensitive to cold and may decline if temperatures drop too low.

SOIL & POTTING

Use a loose, well-draining aroid mix(orchid bark, perlite, coco coir).
Alocasias prefer slightly snug pots — too much space increases risk of overwatering.
Do not repot immediately after arrival. Allow 2–3 weeks for acclimation unless root issues are present.

GROWTH & ACCLIMATION

Your Variegated Frydek may arrive slightly droopy or soft due to shipping stress — this is normal. Provide stable warmth, high humidity, and consistent indirect light to help it recover. New leaves may emerge smaller during acclimation but will size up once the plant settles. Growth often happens in waves; pauses between leaves are normal.
Avoid fertilizing for the first 3–4 weeks after receiving the plant.

COMMON ISSUES & TIPS

  • Yellowing leaves → usually from overwatering or poor drainage

  • Drooping leaves → normal during acclimation or inconsistent watering

  • Crispy or brown edges → low humidity or too much direct light

  • Faded variegation → not enough bright, indirect light

  • Soft or mushy stems → soil staying too wet; allow more drying time

  • Leaf spotting or patchiness → common after shipping or temperature swings

  • Slow growth → seasonal dormancy or insufficient warmth/light

Give your Variegated Frydek time to adjust — variegated Alocasias are sensitive but usually bounce back quickly once settled.
